The last time we chatted, I told you about my move back to Southern California. I was really nervous to make the move back because some of the past struggles I have dealt with in L.A. but, "This shit gon' be different, I set my intentions," as J. Cole says. I have a different view on things and had tremendous growth in the past four years I lived in Sacramento. However, I won't let those fears of struggling stop me.

Living in Los Angeles have not been so great because of the weather. The rain has been real! Not really a fan of the rain I want the "It never rain in southern California" weather lol. Besides the rain my actual living situation is great. I am renting out a room from a married couple. It is a very cute three bedroom house. I lucked up on being introduced to them because they literally are the best roommates.

This week marks my fourth week here and I feel like I am just getting settled in. The house is furnished of course so, the only thing I had to unpack was my room and it still is not unpacked completely. I left my bed and dressers in Sacramento so, I am currently sleeping on an air mattress and using Sterilite 3 drawer to store my clothes. Updates to my room will come soon.

Anywho, Let me tell you about the #Blackexcellence I witnessed and was able to be around this past Sunday! The Pan African Film + Arts Festival held a fashion discussion "THE OPEN DOOR" Black creatives in the Fashion Industry. The event was hosted by designer Love Collins and the panelist included Entrepreneur Tai Beauchamp, Celebrity stylist Ashley Sean Thomas, Fashion Designer Nichole Lynel and, Fashion Designer Natalie Harris. Let me tell you I got my life. The panelist were dropping so many gems and I made sure to keep note of as much as I could.

sidenote: The Pan African Film + Arts Festival (PAFF) is the largest Black Film Festival in America, a non-profit corporation dedicated to the advancement of cultural diversity and education through the exhibition of positive and realistic media images. Want to know more click here.

Some of the things that stood out to me in the conversation (the gems I noted):

- Fashion and Beauty is an extension of identity. Which is why it is important that we are properly represented.

- All your jobs, a internship, nine to five, etc.. are preparing you for your purpose. However, do what makes you happy and don't be afraid to say no to what does not serve you.

- Be careful on how you nature your creativity and surround yourself with people that will push and inspire your creativity. "Birds of feather flock together."

- Fashion gets the attention but your purpose is what you are here for and know that you have EVERYTHING you need to achieve and fulfill your purpose.

- Fashion is a business, know your business, the business is valuable.

- Last but not least, God first in order to keep a peace of mind.

Yesssssss!!! *Snaps Fingers*

It was a great experience to be able to chat with amazing black creatives that have been pavin' the ground for us 90's babies who are just getting our feet wet in the industry. "To the OGs, I'm thankin' you now"- J. Cole.

*** Okay I have quoted J. Cole twice in this post lol. It is safe to say "Middle Child" is my Jam right now!***

After the open discussion, I went to the PAFF Fashion Show. It was all about Wearable Art on the move. High fashion with an Afro-touch. Lovvvvved it!!!!! If you follow me on IG you might have caught a peek of the show on my IG Live. If you don't follow me, follow me now so you won't miss out on more great things to come! @NnekaFry

The Pan African Film + Arts Festival is a whole mood. It was great to experience and hopefully I can get more involved next year!

Of course you can not go to a fashion discussion without wearing some kind of statement piece. That was my yellow "BLACK" crew neck sweater. I reached out to a college friend (IG @designedbytarontino) to order one of his amazing creations and the crew neck was it! I paired it with ripped #fashionnova jeans and #publicdesire boots. All of his clothing is made to order but the turn around is pretty quick. Let him know I sent you if you order!

Special thanks to @Cassidy.lyric for helping me capture some of the images of me!

That is it for now. Thanks for reading and I will see you in the next blog post!
